The Montessori method of education:
Maria Montessori was born on the 31st August 1870 in the town of Chiaravalle, Italy.
Despite facing many obstacles due to her gender, Maria became one of the first female doctors in Italy. She quickly turned her interests to the education of children, and began her lifelong study of the human development.
On January 6, 1907, Maria Montessori opened her first school: "Casa dei Bambini", in a popular area of Rome. It enabled her to create the "prepared learning" environment she believed was conducive to sense learning and creative exploration. Maria put many different activities and other materials into the children’s environment but kept only those that engaged them. What she came to realise was that children who were placed in an environment where activities were designed to support their natural development had the power to educate themselves.
Her writings further served to spread her ideology throughout the world.

Uninterrupted work period : these long time periods allow children to engage with the materials deeply and reach intense concentration
Respect for the rhythm of each child
Experiential learning: concrete manipulation of the material
Individualized curriculum : Montessori teachers give one-on-one lessons to each student depending on his specific level and needs.
